BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post men's basketball team knocked down seven first-half threes, fueling the Pioneers to an 81-66 win over East Coast Conference foe Queens College at the Pratt Recreation Center.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Pioneers (11-3, 6-0 ECC) shot a stellar 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from the field, 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from beyond the arc and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free-throw line.

Leading 24-23 more than midway through the first half, LIU Post reeled off a 14-2 run in a four-minute stretch to expand its advantage to 38-25 at the 5:19 mark. Four different players buried three-pointers in that stretch.

The green and gold eventually built up a 17-point cushion in the final 1:22 of the period, and carried a 48-33 lead into the break. Senior guard Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) paced all Pioneer scorers in the half with 11 points.

During the latter session, LIU Post, which outrebounded Queens (4-6, 2-3 ECC) by a 46-29 count in the contest, kept up the intensity and never allowed the Knights to close the gap to fewer than double digits.

Red-shirt sophomore guard Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) scored a game- and career-high 20 points. He was 10-for-11 from the stripe. Junior forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) and junior guard Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) poured in 14 points apiece. Dotson also pulled down 13 rebounds, while Hall collected six rebounds and five assists. Senior guard Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) added eight points, five boards, five assists and four steals.

Senior forward Michael Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had eight rebounds, four points and one block. Junior forward Barrington Alston (Wilmington, Del.) racked up seven points, five rebounds, one block and one steal in 22 minutes off the bench.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and the Pioneers return to action Tuesday (Jan. 12), when they face ECC rival New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury in the first edition of the Battle of the Boulevard for 2015-16. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
