Indoor Track Tabbed Sixth, Eighth in ECC Preseason Poll

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2016) - With the league championships almost a month away, the East Coast Conference released its 2016 preseason coaches' poll for indoor track and field on Thursday afternoon.

The Pioneer men were projected to finish sixth at the ECC Championships, earning 16 points. Roberts Wesleyan College took the top spot, claiming 46 points and five first-place votes. St. Thomas Aquinas College (36 points) got the other two first-place nods and ranked second. Georgian Court University and Queens College tied for third, raking in 31 points apiece.

LIU Post's women's squad came in eighth, tallying 15 points. Similar to the men's poll, Roberts Wesleyan was a near-unanimous No. 1, logging seven of eight possible first-place votes and 62 points. University of the District of Columbia (46 points) and Georgian Court (41 points) followed in second and third, respectively. Queens, which held down the No. 5 slot, secured the last first-place vote and 36 points.

The Pioneers are back in action Friday (Jan. 22), when they compete in the NYC Gotham Cup at 1 p.m. at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
