Men's Basketball Falls at UDC, 84-73
Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 20, 2016) - Despite a career-high 27-point effort from junior guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.), the LIU Post men's basketball team lost an 84-73 decision to University of the District of Columbia in an East Coast Conference showdown Wednesday night at the UDC Sports Complex.
In the first half, the Pioneers (13-5, 8-2 ECC) trailed 21-16 with eight-plus minutes left, until a 12-5 run in a span of 2:54 by the green and gold gave LIU Post a slight 28-26 cushion at the 5:26 mark.
Hall and red-shirt sophomore guard
Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) buried back-to-back baskets to spark the burst. Senior guard
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) capped it off with a go-ahead lay-up.
However, the Firebirds (8-9, 6-3 ECC) subsequently tied the contest on a pair of Geran Pope (Washington, D.C.) free throws, and took a 40-37 advantage into break.
LIU Post continued to keep the game close in the latter session. The Pioneers rallied from an early seven-point hole (46-39) to even the score at 46-all, but were never able to re-take the lead.
During that spurt, junior forward
Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) accounted for the run's first five points. Hall, who was 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) from the floor in the contest, followed with a game-tying dunk.
Dotson pitched in 14 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists in the loss. Junior forward
Barrington Alston (Wilmington, Del.) hauled in nine rebounds and added five points in 17 minutes off the bench. Burns scored nine points and pulled down three rebounds, while senior guard
Devon McMillan (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed six rebounds and poured in four points.
Head Coach
Erik Smiles and his LIU Post squad are back at it next Wednesday (Jan. 27), when they square off with University of Bridgeport in an ECC tilt in Bridgeport, Conn. at 7:30 p.m.
