Men's Basketball Drops 91-82 Decision to Daemen
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2016) - On Friday, the LIU Post men's basketball team lost its first East Coast Conference contest of 2015-16, falling to Daemen College, 91-82, at the Pratt Recreation Center.
Three Pioneers (12-4, 7-1 ECC) scored in double figures in the effort. Junior forward
Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) and junior guard
Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) scored a team-leading 21 points apiece. Hall also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Dotson hauled in seven boards. Senior guard
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) added 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Late in the first half, LIU Post owned a slight 29-28 edge, until Daemen (8-6, 4-3 ECC) closed out the half on a 20-8 run, making it a 48-37 game at the break. Junior guard Jaleo Wilkes (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) netted a lay-up before time expired to send the Wildcats into halftime with a double-digit lead.
In the latter session, the Pioneers closed a nine-point gap to a one-possession game
(57-54) in 1:26, behind a quick six-point spurt. Senior forward
Michael Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y.) got it started with a lay-up. Burns and Dotson followed with back-to-back baskets.
That was as close as LIU Post got though, as senior guard/forward Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y.) answered with a three to give Daemen a 60-54 cushion at the 11:59 mark. Dyck led all scorers on the evening with 27 points on 10-of-23 shooting.
The Pioneers managed to cut the deficit to six points (79-73) down the stretch, but key foul shooting from the Wildcats, who were 30-of-40 from the stripe in the game, sealed the deal.
