GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2015) - On Thursday, the LIU Post women's tennis team fell to Adelphi University, 5-1, in its 2015 season opener at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.
Seniors
Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and
Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) earned the Pioneers' (0-1) lone win of the day at first doubles. The pair earned a close 9-8 victory versus Stefani Lineva (Middle Village, N.Y.) and Karen Serina (East Islip, N.Y.), taking the tiebreaker by a 7-4 count.
In singles play, junior
Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) lost in straight sets (6-0, 7-6) at the No. 4 position to Rebecca Fakas (Little Neck, N.Y.).
Fellow junior
Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) took the first set (6-1) off the Panthers' (1-0) Elena Nastasi (Mill Neck, N.Y.), but dropped the next two, 6-3, 6-2, to fall at No. 5 singles.
The first three singles flight went unfinished, as the match was called early due to heat fatigue. Freshman
Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.), playing third singles, held a 6-0, 3-0 lead though over Serina.
Head Coach
Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad are back in action Saturday (Sept. 5), when they open up East Coast Conference play at home against University of the District of Columbia. First serve is set for noon.
