BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 13, 2015) - Sophomore midfielder
Alyssa Lopresti (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate hat trick on Sunday to send the No. 3 LIU Post field hockey team to a 6-0 blanking of St. Thomas Aquinas in non-conference action at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Lopresti struck for her first two goals in the opening 8:52 to stake the green and gold to a 2-0 advantage. Three-plus minutes into the contest, she tapped in a
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) cross for her first-ever tally as a Pioneer. Just 5:51 later, the Lindenhurst native put back Margiotta's blocked attempt to double LIU Post's (2-0) lead.
The Pioneers tacked on another goal in the 11th minute, making it a 3-0 game. This time, freshman forward/midfielder
Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) scored her first collegiate goal on an unassisted effort.
LIU Post, which had 16 shots to STAC's (0-4) zero in the first half, took that three-goal advantage into the break.
Less than two minutes into the latter stanza, Lopresti completed her hat trick, as her shot re-directed off a defender's stick into the back of the cage.
Freshman forwards/midfielders
Amanda Flynn (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and
Molly Cunha (North Easton, Mass.) later added their first collegiate markers to wrap up the scoring for the afternoon.
The Pioneers outshot the Spartans 28-2 in the contest and earned a total of 24 penalty corners in the process.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Sept. 16), when they face Pace University under the lights in Pleasantville. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
