DeCarli Earns ABCA/Rawlings Second-Team All-East Region Recognition
GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 18, 2015) - The offseason awards continue to roll in for LIU Post sophomore pitcher
Jake DeCarli (Higganum, Conn.) as the righty was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-East Region second team last week.
Earlier this month, DeCarli was named to the 2015 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association Baseball East All-Region first team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region first team.
DeCarli, the 2015 East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, and All-ECC first-team honoree, was dominant on the hill for the green and gold this season. In 10 starts that spanned 71.0 innings pitched, he put together a 6-1 record to go along with a minuscule 0.76 earned run average. His ERA led the ECC and ranks third nationally in Division II, while his win total was good for fourth in the conference. DeCarli was even better in ECC play, finishing with an unblemished 4-0 mark and a 0.79 ERA during the regular season. On the year, he added 60 strikeouts and held hitters to a stingy .148 batting average against. DeCarli also ranks third in Division II with 4.44 hits allowed per nine innings and fourth with a 0.80 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched).
DeCarli was one of the key factors in the programs success in 2015. The green and gold went 8-2 in his 10 starts, including winning the opening game of each of the six ECC series that he pitched in. He led the Pioneers to their first ECC Baseball Championships appearance since 2010.
In DeCarli's start in the conference tournament, he threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout to advance the Pioneers to the winners bracket.
This marks the first time since the 2010 season that a Pioneers has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region team. That year, freshman outfielder
Zack Graczyk (Carmel, N.Y.) earned ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region first team praise after leading the Pioneers with a .377 average, scoring 52 runs and driving in 31 while rapping 15 doubles, two triples and one homerun. The freshman was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup, stealing 10 bases and was a defensive stalwart in center field, committing only two errors all year. In addition, he posted a 1.50 ERA with a 3-2 record on the mound, earning three saves.
