WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 10, 2015) - In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the No. 9/11 LIU Post women's lacrosse team defeated UDC, 20-2, in East Coast Conference action Friday at Woodrow Wilson High School.

The Pioneers (11-2, 6-0 ECC) tallied an overwhelming 15 goals in the first half. It was the first time that LIU Post put up that many goals in one half since Mar. 9, 2013 (15 in first half versus Southern New Hampshire).

Sophomore attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) netted four goals in the opening 30-minute session. Senior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) collected three goals and two assists. Red-shirt sophomore attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.), who finished with a game-high seven points (1 G, 6 A), recorded a goal and four helpers.

Sophomore midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists. Junior defender/midfielder Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) added a pair of tallies.

Holding a near-insurmountable 15-1 advantage at the break, the green and gold didn't stop there. In the second half, sophomore attacker Brianna Gibbons (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and red-shirt freshman attacker Andrea Ferencsik (Holbrook, N.Y.) got their first collegiate goals. Plus, junior Kasey Kephart (Nesconset, N.Y.), who regularly minds the cage for the Pioneers, played the field and found the back of the net for her first-ever goal at LIU Post.

The Pioneers dominated the shot count in the game, attempting 40 to the Firebirds' (0-9, 0-5 ECC) two. They also doubled up UDC in ground balls (25-12) and won 20-of-24 (83.3 percent) draws.

Bird and junior defender Brittany Smith (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scooped up six draws and three ground balls apiece. Pierro totaled four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior defender/midfielder Kaitlin Gaghan (North Massapequa, N.Y.) amassed three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad return to action next Saturday (Apr. 18), when they host St. Thomas Aquinas in an ECC tilt at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. The opening draw is slated for noon.
