CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2015) - Two LIU Post men's basketball players were tabbed as All-East Coast Conference selections Wednesday, as the league office awarded its postseason honors.
Senior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) earned All-ECC second-team accolades, while senior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was named an Honorable Mention.
Williams and Torres led the way for the Pioneers both offensively and defensively. The pair are No. 1 and No. 2 on the team in points and rebounds per game, respectively. On Feb. 24, Williams was dubbed the ECC Player of the Week after averaging a double-double (14.5 points, 12.0 rebounds) in two wins in the previous week.
Williams currently averages 14.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game on the year. He scored 18 and 13 points in the final two regular season contests, helping the Pioneers earn a No. 4 seed in the ECC Championship.
Torres adjusted well to coming off the bench and providing a spark midway through the campaign. The senior is averaging 13.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, all of which rank second on the team. In the Pioneers' regular-season finale, the New Rochelle native hit a runner with seven seconds remaining in regulation to give LIU Post a thrilling 65-64 win over Roberts Wesleyan.
Williams, Torres and the rest of the Pioneers are set to host Molloy on Wednesday (Mar. 4) in the play-in game of the ECC Championship. The opening tip is slated for 6 p.m. from the Pratt Recreation Center.
