Bird Dubbed ECC Co-Player of the Week

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 23, 2015) - Sophomore midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) of the LIU Post women's lacrosse team was named the East Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday.

Bird, who shared the honor with Dowling's Katie Meinecke, accumulated 11 points in a 2-0 week for the Pioneers. She recorded a career-best eight-point output (5 G, 3 A) and tied her all-time single-game high for draws (7) in a 20-11 win versus Philadelphia U. on Thursday (Mar. 19). Just two days later, the Syosset native dished out three assists in a 6-4 triumph over Roberts Wesleyan.

This marks the first time in Bird's collegiate career that she has garnered a weekly award from the league office. She is the second Pioneer to be recognized as the ECC Player of the Week this season (Jenna Pierro - Mar. 9).

Bird is currently LIU Post's fourth-leading scorer with 18 points (10 G, 8 A). She is slotted third in the ECC in draw controls (27), while also ranking in the Top-10 in ground balls (15), caused turnovers (8) and assists.

Bird and the Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Mar. 25), when they wrap up their three-game homestand against No. 12 Saint Anselm. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
