Women's Lacrosse Holds Steady at No. 4 in IWLCA Division II Poll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. (Mar. 2, 2015) - After a season-opening 16-3 win over Holy Family this past weekend, the LIU Post women's lacrosse team remained fourth in Monday's IWLCA Division II Top-20 Poll.

The Pioneers collected 249 points in the tally, and trailed Lindenwood (Mo.) by only eight points for the No. 3 ranking. Adelphi maintained its spot atop the ledger, while Lock Haven stood pat at No. 2.

Senior midfielder Jenna Pierro (Holbrook, N.Y.) and red-shirt sophomore attacker Emily Delaney (Long Valley, N.J.) led all players with six points apiece in Saturday's victory against the Tigers. Pierro's four goals, three of which came in the first half, tied junior teammate Honey Roche (Centerport, N.Y.).for the game-high.

Roche collected five points (4 G, 1 A) in the triumphant effort. Sophomore midfielder Connor Bird (Syosset, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists for a four-point day. Sophomore attacker Stefani Vagelatos (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and sophomore defender/midfielder Cara Douglas (West Islip, N.Y.) each added three points (1 G, 2 A).

In the first Lacrosse Magazine in-season rankings, the green and gold opened at No. 5. Adelphi (No. 1), Lock Haven (No. 2), Lindenwood (No. 3) and Limestone (No. 4) preceded the Pioneers in the ledger.

Head Coach Meghan McNamara and her LIU Post squad return to action Wednesday (Mar. 4), when they start up East Coast Conference play at Mercy at 3 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
