Women's Swimming Captures Third-Straight Met Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 22, 2015) - The LIU Post women's swimming team won its third-straight Metropolitan Conference Championship, as it amassed 1,235 points through three days of competition at Rutgers University. Senior Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) was bestowed the 2015 Joe Stetz Award for the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer, while Maureen Travers was named the 2015 Dick Krempicki Women's Coach of the Year.
On Sunday, Pettersson won the 200-yard backstroke, clocking an NCAA "B" qualifying mark and first-place time of 1:58.90. Cristina Garcia Mauri (Malaga, Spain) placed second in the feat, and also earned an NCAA "B" qualifier at 2:02.98.
The 100-yard freestyle saw Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) race to an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 50.74, which was good for second place. Laura Bendfeldt (Grosshansdorf, Germany) added a fourth-place showing and secured a "B" qualifier at 52.06. Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales) and Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) finished the 100-yard freestyle at 52.94, 53.83 and 55.95, respectively.
Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany) swam to an event win for the green and gold, as she finished the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:15.24, good for an NCAA "B" qualifying standard. Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.), the reigning 200-yard butterfly National Champion, raced to an NCAA "A" qualifying and first-place time of 1:59.52 in the feat. Erika Hultman (Bara, Sweden) placed third in the 200-fly at 2:09.05. The 400-yard freestyle relay saw another Pioneer event win, as Bendfeldt, Pettersson, Kwok and Brazier finished first at 3:38.15.
LIU Post returns to the pool on Wednesday, Mar. 11, in NCAA Division II National Championship competition.
