Indoor Track and Field Competes at ECC Championships

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2015) - The LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively, at the East Coast Conference Championships, held at Saint Anthony's High School on Saturday.
The men's team scored 42 total points in the meet, finishing 130 points behind first-place Roberts Wesleyan. The green and gold won three events on the day, starting with the distance medley relay. Freshman
Thomas Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.), red-shirt junior
Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) and graduate students
Joseph Lasher (Seaford, N.Y.) and
Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) combined to clock a time of 10:44.51 in the event, besting the relay squad from Roberts Wesleyan by over five full seconds and clinching a new meet record.
McDonald continued the winning ways by taking the 400-meter race with a time of 51.22, as he crossed the line five-tenths of a second faster than his competition. The Roosevelt native completed his debut at the ECC Championships with a sixth-place finish (23.39) in the 200-meter dash. Freshman
Bjorn Bjornsson (Levittown, N.Y.) was eighth (23.53) in the same race. Bjornsson also boasted a pair of fourth-place showings in the 60-meter dash (7.22) and the long jump (6.32 meters).
Red-shirt sophomore
Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) ran a near-perfect race and was victorious in the 3,000-meter event, with a new meet record of 8:52.79. Scott's time was seven seconds clear of second-place finisher Kevin Brown (Gowanda, N.Y.) of Roberts Wesleyan. Also placing high in the 3,000 was Arnone, who posted a sixth-place performance (9:26.08).
Because of their conference wins, McDonald, Scott, Flynn and Arnone qualified for the 94th IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston University on Mar. 6-8.
Meanwhile. the women's team finished with a total of 39 points, as first-place Roberts Wesleyan scored a full 140 points to take the meet. Like the men's team, the women's harriers were successful in capturing the distance medley race. Freshman
Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) and
Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) combined with graduate student
Robin Lynn (Glen Gardner, N.J.) and junior
Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) to clock a time of 12:40.10. The Pioneers' first-place time was an astounding 10 seconds faster than the second-place relay squad from St. Thomas Aquinas and qualifed them to run in the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston University.
Williams would place third in the one-mile run (5:22.21), whereas Hoffman rounded out the Top-5 in the same event, sporting a time of 5:28.90. Lynn garnered a second-place finish (3:10.08) in the 1,000-meter run. Stirling's 3,000-meter time of 10:50.01 was good enough for third place.
Freshman
Danae Glover (North Babylon, N.Y.) provided a stellar effort in both track and field events for the Pioneers. She finished in the Top-14 of the 28-runner field in the 200-meter dash (28.29) and recorded a third-place leap in the triple jump event, with a mark of 10.69 meters.
