Women's Basketball Suffers 70-66 Overtime Loss to Dowling

Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2015) - On Saturday, the LIU Post women's basketball team dropped a hard fought 70-66 decision in overtime to Dowling College at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The Pioneers fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in East Coast Conference play, while Dowling improved to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

It was a back-and-forth match between the Pioneers and Golden Lions that saw seven lead changes throughout the contest.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Pioneers were down eight (59-51). Senior center Nyasia Davis (Rahway, N.J.) converted a three-point play off an assist from senior guard Jalyn Brown (Riverhead, N.Y.). Then, freshman guard Amber Jones (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a fastbreak lay-up to make it a three-point game (59-56). After Dowling added a lay-up, the Pioneers scored five straight points, capped by a lay-up from Brown, who missed a three-pointer, grabbed her own rebound, drove and scored, to tie the game and force overtime.

In the extra session, Dowling scored the first six points to give itself a 67-61 lead and would close out the contest with free throws down the stretch.

Davis finished with her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jones finished with a career-best 13 points in her first career start. Junior forward Janaysia James (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added nine points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Head coach Deirdre Moore and her Pioneers return to the hardwood on Sunday (Dec. 20) when they host Bentley University in a non-conference battle in Brookville. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.
