Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at No. 7 Southern Connecticut, 98-84

Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) scored 21 points on Monday, but it wasn't enough, as the LIU Post men's basketball team fell to No. 7 Southern Connecticut State University, 98-84, in non-conference action at Moore Field House.
It was the fifth-straight game that Hall reached double figures and the second time this season that he amassed 20 or more points. Hall, who was 7-of-14 from the floor, also pulled down six rebounds and dished out five assists in the loss.
The Pioneers (4-2) held a one-point lead early in the first half, but the Owls (5-0) responded at the midway point of the period to bring a 12-point cushion (56-44) into the intermission.
Leading 20-19 with less than 11 minutes to go, SCSU went on a 21-8 run over a span of 4:33 to grab a 40-28 lead at the 6:21 mark. Isaiah McLeod (Cambridge, Mass.) and Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) combined to drop in four three-pointers in the burst.
LIU Post rallied though, using a 7-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 40-35 with 4:54 left. Senior guard
Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) got it started with a trey. Junior forward
Barrington Alston (Wilmington, Del.) followed with a lay-up. Sophomore forward
Hunter Powell (Tustin, Mich.) rounded out the run with a lay-up of his own.
In the second half, the Owls maintained a double-digit lead for much of the 20-minute session, en route to earning their fifth-consecutive win. Southern Connecticut eventually built as much as a 23-point lead (97-74) with 5:32 remaining.

Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) poured in 14 points in the effort. Senior guard
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) collected 12 points and six boards. Junior guard
Bryant Webb (Parlin, N.J.) had a game-high-tying 10 rebounds, to go along with nine points. Senior forward
Michael Phillip (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added seven points, five boards and two blocks.
Overall, the Pioneers shot 45.3 percent (34-of-75) from the field and 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from long distance. Additionally, they outscored the Owls on second-chance opportunities by a 15-9 count.
