Women's Fencing Kicks Off 2015-16 Season at Temple Open

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2015) - Last weekend, the LIU Post women's fencing team opened up the 2015-16 season at the annual Temple University Open in Philadelphia.

Freshman Athena Grauer (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers in her first career event. She placed 44th overall in foil. Senior Brittany Burgos (Bronx, N.Y.) turned in a 68th-place finish in foil.

In epee, sophomore Chantelle Duncan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) placed 54th, while junior Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) tied for 59th.

Finally, in sabre, senior Kat Miraglia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) placed 54th in her first collegiate event. Junior Sophie Michaelides (Whitestone, N.Y.) finished 59th to round out the scoring for the Pioneers.

Head Coach Mike Corona and his LIU Post squad are back in action at the Drew University Fall Fencing Classic next Saturday (Nov. 7).
