Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 3, 2015) - On Saturday, the LIU Post football team came out on the short end of a 44-17 loss to Northeast-10 Conference arch-rival American International College at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

Down 6-0 early in the second quarter, the Pioneers (3-2, 2-2 NE-10) took the lead on a 40-yard touchdown strike from junior quarterback Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) to red-shirt junior wide receiver Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) with 12:08 to go. Kidd completed four straight passes in the drive, three of which went for 10 yards or more.

However, the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-2 NE-10) exploded for 24 unanswered points before halftime to build a 23-point cushion (30-7) at the break. AIC capitalized on a pair of pick-sixes, while senior wideout Maurice Easterling (Yonkers, N.Y.) rushed for a 74-yard go-ahead touchdown at the 9:56 mark.

Late in the third quarter, LIU Post, trailing 30-10, needed just one play to cut its deficit to two possessions. On a first-and-10 from the Yellow Jackets' 32-yard line, Kidd connected with red-shirt sophomore wideout James Higgins (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) on a 32-yard pass up the seam to the end zone, making it a 30-17 game.

That was as close as the Pioneers got though, as AIC held the green and gold off the scoreboard in the final 15-minute session.

Hubbard and red-shirt sophomore wide receiver Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.) both finished with 82 yards receiving for LIU Post. Junior running back David White (Bronx, N.Y.) made four catches for 48 yards and ran for 28 yards on nine carries.

Defensively, red-shirt senior linebacker Brandon Cheney (Hewlett, N.Y.) led all players with 14 tackles (seven solo, seven assist) and recorded an interception. Red-shirt junior linebacker Wayne Harris (Jamaica, N.Y.) collected 11 tackles, including eight solo stops. Red-shirt sophomore defensive lineman Anthony DeNunzio (Seaford, N.Y.) had eight tackles and one sack. Junior defensive back Clarence Sears (Montclair, N.J.) and senior defensive lineman James Athan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) chipped in seven tackles apiece.

Head Coach Bryan Collins and the Pioneers return to the gridiron next Saturday (Oct. 10), when they host their annual Homecoming game against Merrimack College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
