Women's Tennis Claims ECC Tourney Bid; Tops Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2015) - The LIU Post women's tennis team won four of six singles flights Friday, en route to a 6-3 triumph over East Coast Conference nemesis Roberts Wesleyan College at the Midtown Athletic Club.

The victory has secured the Pioneers (5-5, 3-3 ECC) a spot in the East Coast Conference Championship. It is the third-straight year that LIU Post has earned a bid to the league tournament.

Freshman Shanice Arthur (Brookville, N.Y.) led off singles play with a straight-set (6-3, 6-0) win versus Natalia Cardona (Armenia, Colombia) at the No. 1 position. Senior Didi Fatchikova (Sofia, Bulgaria) blanked Marine Kennel (BennWhir-Gare, France), 6-0, 6-0, in the second flight. Fellow senior Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) was also a straight-set victor, knocking off Camilla Linhart (Albury, Australia), 6-1, 7-5, at third singles.

In doubles action, the Pioneers' No. 1 and No. 2 pairings posted 8-4 wins against their opposition. Fatchikova and Chrastecka defeated Cardona and Kennel in the top flight, while junior Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand), who captured a three-set victory in fourth singles, and Arthur teamed up to beat Linhart and Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y.) at the second position.

Head Coach Walter Giacometti and his LIU Post squad wrap up the regular season on Saturday (Oct. 17), when they face Daemen College in an ECC clash at noon in Amherst.
