WATERBURY, Conn. (Oct. 10, 2015) - On Saturday, the 17th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at non-conference foe Post University in Waterbury.
Both teams went scoreless in the game's first 45 minutes. The Eagles (7-4-1) outshot the Pioneers (8-1-2), 7-6, and the keepers made three saves apiece.
It wasn't until the 67th minute, when sophomore forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) got a lead pass from sophomore midfielder
Harry Pearse (Berkshire, London, England) that Lampkin chipped over the keeper's head for the 1-0 lead.
Then, in the 83rd minute, the Eagles tied it on a header off a corner.
In the closing minutes, senior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) sent a shot wide and the game would go to overtime.
In the first extra session, the Pioneers put three shots on goal in the 97th, 100th, and 103rd minutes, but Post's Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) made all three saves, preserving the 1-1 tie. The Eagles did get one shot off, but it was off target.
In the second overtime period, the green and gold failed to convert a corner kick in the 117th minute and a Post shot went high. The final horn sounded with the game tied at 1-all.
In 110 minutes of action, junior keeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made three saves for the Pioneers, who outshot the Eagles in the contest, 19-17.
Head Coach
