NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 10, 2015) - Highlighted by Top-10 finishes from graduate Dale McDonald (Roosevelt, N.Y.) and freshman Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.), the LIU Post men's and women's indoor track and field teams contended at the Yale Invitational on Saturday. 

For the men, McDonald completed the 400-meter dash in 51.86, securing him a seventh-place showing out of 25 participants. In the 200-meter dash, freshmen Bjorn Bjornsson (Levittown, N.Y.) and Toby Ilomuanya (South Orange, N.J.) crossed at 23.77 and 24.35, respectively. Ilomuanya also went on to finish the 500-meter dash in 1:14.40, with teammate Neguss Flash (Little Neck, N.Y.) trailing closely behind at 1:14.53. 

Sophomore Mike Scott (Fultonville, N.Y.) clocked a 2:01.58 in the 800-meter run, and a 9:21.29 in the 3,000. Scott was joined in the 3,000-meter run by freshman Ryan Gioe (Huntington Station, N.Y.) and sophomore Tyler McGarvey (Babylon, N.Y.), who posted individual times of 9:52.47 and 9:57.24.

Junior Steven Arnone (Staten Island, N.Y.) completed the one-mile run in 5:05.69.

In the field events, Bjornsson and freshman Matthew Berenberg (Seaford, N.Y.) leapt to individual distances of 5.79 and 4.83 meters in the long jump.


On the women's side, Williams placed ninth in the 800-meter run with a 2:22.29 clocking. Junior Elizabeth Stirling (Wantagh, N.Y.) added a 14th-place performance (10:53.87) in the 3,000.

Freshman Nicolette DeSouza (Stroudsburg, Pa.) sprinted to respective times of 8.75 and 29.44 in the 60- and 200-meter dash. Graduate Robin Lynn (Glen Gardner, N.J.) clocked a 3:13.19 in the 1,000-meter run, while teammates Lauren Hoffman (Melville, N.Y.) and Jessica Wiking (Farmingdale, N.Y.) ran to a 5:30.96 and 6:16.20, respectively, in the mile.


The Pioneers are back in action Friday (Jan. 16), when they compete at the NYC Gotham Cup at noon in New York, N.Y.
