EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 23, 2014) - Led by a
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) hat trick, the No. 7 LIU Post field hockey team knocked off No. 5 East Stroudsburg, 4-1, in East Stroudsburg, Pa. on Tuesday.
The Pioneer (3-1) offense set the tone rather early with a Margiotta goal off of a
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) assist 10 minutes into the first half. That goal remained unanswered throughout the opening stanza.
East Stroudsburg's (4-3) Desiraye Mack would find the back of the cage, however, five minutes into the second half to tie the contest at 1-1.
Shortly thereafter, Margiotta put the green and gold back out in front once again. At the 54:09 mark, the Sewell native put home a pass from freshman
Kaycee Zelkovsky (Lambertville, N.J.) to give LIU Post a 2-1 edge. She picked up the hat trick just over a minute later.
To top off the Pioneers' offensive strike, Zelkovsky added a goal of her own with 3:08 remaining. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) saved two shots in the second half to secure the victory.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad are back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 30), when they host Adelphi in their 2014 home opener at 4 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
