MANCHESTER, N.H. (Sept. 17, 2014) - The LIU Post women's soccer team handed Southern New Hampshire a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday, as the Pioneers got goals from junior forward
Susanne Vistnes (Randaberg, Norway) and sophomore forward
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden).
LIU Post (3-1) has now won three straight contests since falling in the season opener to Southern Connecticut in overtime.
Vistnes opened the scoring for the visitors in the 37th minute. After a scramble in front of the net led to a corner kick for the Pioneers, the Randaberg native got a feed from senior
Lauren Bellone (West Islip, N.Y.) and found the back of the net for her first marker of the season.
LIU Post held a 7-4 shot advantage and a 4-0 corner kick edge at halftime.
As both teams battled throughout the second half, Backman found the back of the net off a cross from Vistnes, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes to go. That goal proved to be the game-winner after Alexa Poulin scored for Southern New Hampshire with just over a minute left.
In goal, sophomore
Hreffie Agnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) made three saves to earn her third win. For SNHU, Autum Scanlon stopped eight shots in the loss.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 20), when they open East Coast Conference play with a match against St. Thomas Aquinas at Pioneer Soccer Park in Brookville, N.Y. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
