MANCHESTER, N.H. (Sept. 13, 2014) - Aided by a four-goal afternoon from junior forward
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.), the No. 3 LIU Post field hockey team defeated Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, 7-0. The Pioneers have now won 23 of their last 24 contests, dating back to the start of last season.
The Pioneers (2-0) controlled the tempo from the first whistle to the final buzzer. Margiotta would score the first four goals of the game, tallying the first one just 4:46 in. Nearly 20 minutes later, the junior scored again, this time off a pass from senior
Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados).
Continuing her impressive stretch, Margiotta got the hat trick on a penalty stroke in the 30th minute of play. Then, in the 47th minute, the Sewell native rounded out her scoring for the day, as she and junior
Cindy Russell (Sound Beach, N.Y.) teamed up to find the back of the cage.
The Pioneers managed to strike three more times in the second half on goals by sophomores
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.),
Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.) and
Steph Mocerino (Andover, N.J.).
For the second-consecutive game, the green and gold held their opponents without a shot for a full 70 minutes. LIU Post, on the other hand, attempted 38 shots, with a total of 19 on target. Cassandra Nickerson (Newton, N.H.) and Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) combined to make 13 saves for the Penmen (1-1).
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers will travel back to New Hampshire next Friday (Sept. 19), when they face off with Saint Anselm. Action is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
