Field Hockey Voted Preseason Favorite in NE-10 Coaches' Poll
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. (Aug. 29, 2014) - Fresh off a Northeast-10 Conference title-winning season, the LIU Post field hockey team was tabbed first out of 12 squads in the 2014 NE-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced Friday.
The Pioneers amassed eight out of a possible 12 first-place tallies and 117 points overall to secure the top spot. The defending conference champions defeated Stonehill, 2-1, in last year's NE-10 final, and eventually advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship game.
A tight race for second and third, Merrimack and Stonehill received 106 and 104 votes, respectively. Merrimack earned three first-place nods, while Stonehill collected the last. Adelphi was slotted fourth with 87 total points, and Bentley (83 points) rounded out the Top-5.
The Pioneers' 2014 campaign will start on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when they will face Dowling at 4 p.m. in Brookhaven, N.Y.
