Allen, Torres Tabbed All-Met Division II Honorees
NEW YORK, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2014) - Senior forward
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) of the LIU Post men's basketball team poured on the postseason accolades Thursday, claiming All-Met Division II first- and second-team honors, respectively.
Allen, who was named to the All-Met second-team in 2012-13, was tied for the team-lead in scoring (16.6 PPG) this season on 50.2 percent (158-of-315) shooting from the floor. He also crashed the glass for an average of 9.3 rebounds per game, which led the Pioneers as well. The Mount Vernon, N.Y. native's efforts landed him All-East Coast Conference first-team and Daktronics All-East Region second-team recognition.
In addition, Allen, the country's fourth-leading offensive rebounder (4.46) in 2013-14, became the program's all-time leading battler on the boards. On Feb. 22, he grabbed 12 rebounds in a 64-57 win over St. Thomas Aquinas to surpass former record-holder Jim McDonald.
Torres finished his first year in Brookville tied with Allen atop the LIU Post scoring leaderboard (16.6 PPG). Plus, he averaged 6.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals per contest, while shooting at a 41.3 percent (174-of-421) clip from field-goal range.
Torres ranked in the Top-10 amongst the ECC in four different statistical categories. The New Rochelle, N.Y. product was fifth in field goals made and points per game, sixth in total points (466), and seventh in total assists (106). As a result, Torres was named an All-ECC second-team all-star.
Allen, Torres and the Pioneers concluded the 2013-14 campaign at 17-12 overall, including a 12-8 ledger in East Coast Conference play. Click
