Allen, Torres Chosen To All-ECC Roster
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2014) - The East Coast Conference revealed its 2013-14 All-ECC men's basketball selections Tuesday, and two LIU Post players were recognized. Senior forward
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) was selected as a first-team All-ECC member, and junior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) garnered All-ECC second-team kudos.
Allen was a dominant force for the Pioneers all year long, as he ranked among the top scorers and rebounders in the conference. The senior averaged 16.4 points per game, which ranked fifth out of all players, and his 9.3 rebounds per game were fourth-best in the ECC. In addition, Allen finished the regular season in the Top-10 in blocks per game and field-goal percentage. He also recorded nine double-doubles and reached double digits in points in all but three contests.
A transfer from Duquesne, Torres made an immediate impact as soon as he hit the court at the Pratt Recreation Center. The junior poured in 16.6 points per game, good enough for seventh among ECC players. He dished out 3.9 assists per game as well, which puts him just outside the Top-5 conference players in that category. Torres finished with double-doubles in four contests, including a career-high 33 points and 10 assists in a 92-85 win over Bloomfield back in November.
The efforts of both Allen and Torres were integral reasons for the Pioneers' success this season, finishing with an eighth-straight East Coast Conference Tournament berth. With that said, LIU Post will face fifth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas in an opening-round matchup Wednesday (Mar. 5) in Brookville, N.Y. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
