MANCHESTER, N.H. (Dec. 20, 2014) - Trailing 33-30 at the break, the LIU Post men's basketball team shot an impressive 54.2 percent from the floor in the second half, en route to a 71-65 come-from-behind win over Southern New Hampshire Saturday at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
Down 53-49 more than midway into the latter stanza, the Pioneers (4-6) went on a 10-1 run to take a five-point lead (59-54), and never looked back. Junior guard
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the burst with a lay-up. Senior forward
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) drilled a jumper in the paint to close it out.
The Penmen (7-3) managed to close the gap to as few as two points (62-60) with 2:41 left, but back-to-back lay-ups by senior forward
Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) and junior guard
Chris Orozco (Tenafly, N.J.) in a stint of 35 seconds sealed the green and gold's first win since Nov. 23.
In the opening 20 minutes, SNHU held the lead for most of the half. It built as much as a seven-point advantage (29-22) at the 2:40 mark on a trey by Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.).
McCann notched a double-double in the winning effort for the Pioneers, amassing 14 points and 11 rebounds. Williams poured in 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. Burns and Orozco pitched in 10 points apiece. Orozco also grabbed nine boards, while Burns had five rebounds and three assists. Senior guard
P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored nine points in 24 minutes off the bench.
