WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 13, 2014) - The LIU Post men's basketball team kicked off a four-game road trip Saturday with a 94-91 loss to UDC in East Coast Conference action in the nation's capital.

Down 19-17 midway through the first half, the Firebirds (2-8, 2-0 ECC) rolled off a 19-5 streak over a near four-minute stretch to take a 36-24 lead at the 6:32 mark. UDC knocked down five three-pointers in the burst, two of which came from sophomore guard/forward Reggie Sidbury (Landover, Md.).

The hosts, who shot 48.7 percent (19-of-39) from the floor and 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from downtown in the opening stanza, led by as many as 18 points (53-38), and carried a 55-40 cushion into the break.

Three-plus minutes into the latter half, the Pioneers (3-6, 0-3 ECC) trailed 65-46, until an overwhelming 32-5 run in a nine-plus minute span gave them a 78-70 edge with 6:36 to go in regulation. Senior forward Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) led the way in the burst with eight points. Sophomore guard Jared Hall (South Orange, N.J.) had seven points.

Shortly thereafter, LIU Post remained ahead by eight (80-72), on a pair of P.J. Torres (New Rochelle, N.Y.) free throws. However, UDC responded with a 17-2 spurt, anchored by three lay-ups from Quasim Jones (Philadelphia, Pa.), to re-gain the lead at 89-82.

The visitors weren't done there though. In a stint of 1:01, LIU Post evened the score at 91-all, on back-to-back lay-ups by Williams and senior forward Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.).

Yet, the Firebirds' Omar Abbas (Alexandria, Egypt) hit a trey at the four-second mark to put his team back in front. On the ensuing and final possession, Torres attempted to force overtime, but his three-point try missed the mark as time expired.

Williams, Torres and junior guard Akosa Maduegbunam (Hyde Park, Mass.) each finished with 14 points. Torres also grabbed eight rebounds, while Williams pulled down five boards. Hall amassed 11 points and five rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Sophomore forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) added nine points and eight boards. McCann chipped in nine points and six rebounds.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and the Pioneers are back in action next Saturday (Dec. 20), when they travel up to Manchester, N.H. for a 1 p.m. matinee at Southern New Hampshire.
