BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 22, 2014) - The No. 4 LIU Post field hockey team fell one goal short of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship title on Saturday. With the 1-0 loss to No. 5 Stonehill, the Pioneers' record stands at a 16-3 overall mark.
The first half of action saw no scoring plays, as the green and gold ripped five shots and the Skyhawks took 7. LIU Post's sophomore goalkeeper
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) collected five saves through the first 35 minutes to keep the contest in a 0-0 stalemate.
Early in the second period, at 45:29, Stonehill's Emily Sideris found the back of the cage off of a Sarah Morse penalty corner to give the Skyhawks the only advantage they would need. The Pioneers battled back, amassing 10 shots through the second half, one which was defensively saved by Stonehill's senior Emily Coholan.
NE-10 Player of the Year,
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) took three shots on goal, while senior
Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) made attempt on goal four times. Parks tallied 6 saves throughout 70 minutes.
Margiotta and
Dani Crouse (Westville, South Africa) were selected to the Northeast-10 Field Hockey All-Tournament team for their performances throughout NE-10 postseason play.
The Pioneers await their seeding for the 2014 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament in the selection show set to air on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
