Women's Fencing Wins Twice at Vassar Mega-Meet
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2014) - The LIU Post women's fencing team picked up the program's first-ever win at the Matt Lampell Tournament on Sunday at Vassar.
The Pioneers competed against five other schools in their inaugural mega-meet competition, defeating Marist, 18-9, to open play. The green and gold also topped Yeshiva by a final score of 15-12.
In the epee discipline, sophomore
Kirstan Shaw (South Setauket, N.Y.) completed 18 bouts with an impressive 16-2 record. Senior
Alexa Parry (Setauket, N.Y.) went 12-6 in epee as well for LIU Post.
Freshman
Natalie Guerino (San Francisco, Calif.) was the top Pioneer in the sabre discipline, winning six of her 16 bouts on the day.
Finally, sophomore
Sophie Michaelides (Whitestone, N.Y.) was the team's best foil fencer, posting an 8-10 record in her duels.
Head Coach
Mike Corona and the Pioneers will next take part in the Max Garret Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 22) at Penn State in University Park, Pa.
