SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 12, 2014) - Highlighted by a
Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) hat trick, the No. 4 LIU Post field hockey team defeated American International, 4-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up Wednesday at Ronald J. Abdow Field. With the win, the Pioneers secured the NE-10 regular season title.
Wilson's offensive command started early in the game, as she ripped an unassisted goal to the left of the cage just over a minute into action. At 6:28, the Yellow Jackets (10-7, 6-4 NE-10) answered with their own tally, off the stick of Jenna Masionis, to tie things up at 1-1. Four minutes later, senior forward
Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) converted a
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) assist to give the green and gold a lead that would stand through the end of regulation.
Wilson completed her three-goal offensive strike with an additional two, unassisted tallies at 26:46 and 48:08, respectively. The Bridgetown, Barbados native has now amassed 12 goals and 10 assists through the 2014 campaign, boasting the No. 3 assists per game average (0.71) in the nation.
The Pioneer (15-2, 10-1 NE-10) offense took 21 total shots, while the green and gold back line allowed the Yellow Jackets only eight. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) collected two saves in the victory.
