No. 5 Field Hockey Bests Bentley, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2014) - Led by a Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) hat trick, the No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team defeated Northeast-10 Conference opponent Bentley, 3-1, in its annual "Stick It To Cancer" game on Sunday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Margiotta gave the Pioneers (9-2, 5-1 NE-10) an early advantage just seven minutes into the competition, after she converted a Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) assist from outside the arc. Ten-plus minutes later, she doubled LIU Post's lead, putting back a rebound off a shot by Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.).

The green and gold eventually brought a 2-0 cushion into halftime.

In the 46th minute, Margiotta capped off LIU Post's offensive strike, ripping an unassisted goal into the bottom left of the cage.

The Pioneer back line allowed the Falcons (6-6, 2-3 NE-10) only seven total shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves for her seventh win of the 2014 season.

Head Coach Raenee Savin and her LIU Post squad are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 29), when they face No. 7 Adelphi in an NE-10 clash in Garden City at 7 p.m.
