NORTH EASTON, Mass. (Oct. 17, 2014) - Senior forward
Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) led the Pioneer two-goal effort, but it wasn't enough, as the No. 6 LIU Post field hockey team fell to No. 4 Stonehill, 3-2, on Friday.
Though the Skyhawks (8-1, 3-0 NE-10) struck early to grab the 1-0 lead, the Pioneers (7-2, 3-1 NE-10) answered in the latter stages of the first half to tie the score. Ruhle accounted for the equalizer, as she knocked a loose ball to the back of the cage. The two squads would head into the break all even at 1-apiece.
In the second half, Stonehill got goals from Alexandria Sylvia and Lauren Giordano at 45:03 and 64:07, respectively, to re-gain the lead. Yet, LIU Post did not give up, notching their final tally just as time expired. Again, Ruhle was credited with the goal.
Overall, the Pioneers held a slight 15-14 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper
Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) recorded seven saves for the green and gold.
Head Coach
Raenee Savin and the Pioneers are back in action Tuesday (Oct. 21), when they host Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference clash at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at 4 p.m.
