Austboe, Kristjansson Garner Weekly ECC Men's Soccer Accolades
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2013) - LIU Post men's soccer junior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) and freshman forward/midfielder Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) have been chosen as the East Coast Conference Offensive Player, and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Monday.
Austboe, NCAA Division II's current leading scorer with 26 points, posted an eight-point (3 G, 2 A) outburst in a pair of home contests last week. He notched two goals in the first 4:02, and added an assist, in a 4-1 triumph against Philadelphia on Wednesday. The Norwegian followed that up with a three-point (1 G, 1 A) showing in an overtime win versus NYIT Saturday.
Kristjansson netted two tallies, and dished out a helper, for a five-point week. He picked up a key insurance goal on Wednesday, and scored the equalizer with 4:03 to go in regulation Saturday. Amongst the ECC's statistical leaderboard, Kristjansson presently ranks sixth in goals (4) and seventh in total points (9).
Austboe, Kristjansson and the Pioneers are back to the pitch Friday (Oct. 4), when they square off with Roberts Wesleyan in an ECC tilt in Brookville, N.Y. The opening kick is slated for 2:30 p.m.
