BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2013) - With a 10-point performance (4g, 2a) from senior forward Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.), the No. 5 LIU Post field hockey team upended Southern Connecticut State, 8-2, Tuesday afternoon at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y.

With the win, LIU Post improves to 6-0, while Southern Connecticut drops to 0-6.

With seven points in the first half on three goals and one assist, Dragon led all players in scoring. In the seventh minute of play, Dragon kickstarted the offense with a deflection into the lower left corner of the net, off an initial shot by freshman Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.). Just a minute later, Dragon was at it again, as sophomore Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) started a breakaway up the right side of the field and hit Dragon at the top of the circle, who spun around and blasted the ball into the lower right corner of the cage for her second goal of the game.

The Pioneers tacked on their third goal in the 18th minute of play, as senior Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) received a pass from junior Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados), and tapped the ball into the lower left corner. Dragon and Margiotta teamed up for the Pioneers' fourth goal and Dragon's third, as Margiotta crossed to Dragon on the left side who blasted the ball into the goal. To put the green and gold up 5-0, the Dragon-Margiotta duo teamed up once again, this time in reverse fashion. Dragon, on the left side, passed to Margiotta, who was waiting right in front of the goal to tap the ball in for the score.

Freshman Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) was in net for LIU Post in the first half, and saved both SCSU shots she faced.

The second half was quiet until the 54th minute, when Wilson took a pass from Dragon at the top of the circle and drilled the ball diagonally into the left side of the cage. In the 60th minute, the Owls found their way on the scoreboard courtesy of a penalty stroke off the stick of Sarah Cebry, bringing the score to 6-1. Just 30 seconds later, the Pioneers re-claimed the six-goal lead once again thanks to the Dragon-Margiotta pair. Margiotta passed the ball to Dragon, who was waiting in front of the left side of the goal and directed the ball past the goalie and into the back of the net.

A pass from Lauren Anderson to Cebry at the far post led to the Owl's and Cebry's second goal of the game in the 64th minute. Sophomore Cindy Russell's (Sound Beach, N.Y.) penalty stroke in the 65th minute was the eighth and final goal of the game for the Pioneers.

Freshman Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) worked the second half between the pipes for the Pioneers, as she allowed two goals, while turning away two shots.  Her counterpart, Audrey Dolloff, played the full 70 minutes in goal for the visitors, making 23 stops, while allowing eight goals.

The Pioneers return to action Friday (Sept. 27), as they head to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
