Tennis Competes At 2013 USTA/ITA East Regional Championships
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2013) - The LIU Post women's tennis team participated in the 2013 USTA/ITA Regional Championships this past weekend, hosted by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Chestnut Hill. Sophomore Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) advanced the farthest, making it to the third round of the Women's A Singles.
Chrastecka and Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) competed in 'A' Singles, while Teresa Ndong (Madrid, Spain), Amanda Gaimaro (Lynbrook, N.Y.), and Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) took part in 'B' Singles action.
Kewalramani dropped her opening match to Samson of Queens (3-6, 2-6), but Chrastecka picked up two victories before being eliminated. First, she faced off against Yamas of Bentley, and got the win, 6-4, 6-1. Next, she beat Duijst of Dist. of Columbia, 6-0, 6-2. Her final match-up came against Plevako of Queens, who defeated Chrastecka, 6-2, 6-0.
In 'B' Singles, Ndong dropped her opening match, 8-2, to Philadelphia's Kurts. Gaimaro and Harwell each lost their matches to members of Adelphi. Gaimaro fell to Moreau, 8-3, while Harwell lost to King, 8-4.
Chrastecka and Kewalramani teamed up in 'A' Doubles, and dropped a hard-fought match to Philadelphia's Chung/Espinosa, 9-7.
Gaimaro and Harwell made up one of the Pioneer 'B' Doubles squads, and lost their match to the University of the Sciences' Quang/White, 8-5. The other 'B' Doubles team (Djurdjevic/Ndong) picked up a win in their opening match against Cadenovic/Kamleu of the University of the Sciences, 8-6, and then dropped the second match-up to Georgian Court's Hoffman/Jenson by a score of 8-5.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday (Sept. 25), as they host ECC foe Molloy at the LIU Post Tennis Courts for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
