Box Score
MANCHESTER, N.H. (Sept. 14, 2013) - Senior
Carlee Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) and sophomore
Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) each scored a pair of goals to lead No. 7 LIU Post to a 5-0 victory over Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 field hockey contest Saturday afternoon in Manchester, N.H.
LIU Post improves to 2-0 overall, while Saint Anselm dips to 1-2.
The Pioneers tallied their first goal in the final seconds of the first half, when Margiotta came up with the shot after a scrum in front of the cage off a feed from
Melissa Quintanilla (Rome, N.Y.).
In the second half, the Pioneer offense stayed aggressive, and scored four goals over an 11-minute span, beginning when junior forward
Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados) tapped in her second goal of the season on a pass from Dragon in the 53rd minute.
Five minutes later, Margiotta netted her second goal of the game from the left side on a reverse stick slash.
Dragon followed with two goals in just under a two-minute stint, putting the game away with under seven minutes left to play. First, the senior forward was able to take a shot from the right side that ricocheted off the Hawk defender and into the back of the net. A few moments later, freshman
Lauren Adamusik (Clark, N.J.) fed a long through ball that Dragon tracked down near the right side of the endline and, at a nearly impossible angle, was able to drill inside the far post.
Meredith Stocklin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) recorded five saves over 55:29 minutes to preserve the shutout. Saint Anselm's Shauna Whittemore (Bennington, N.H.) made nine stops in goal.
LIU Post returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 17) at Adelphi. Game time is at 4 p.m.
