Full NSCAA Division II Preseason Top-25 Poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 13, 2013) - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America put out its Division II Preseason Top-25 Men's Soccer Poll on Tuesday, and LIU Post placed eighth in the census. The Pioneers are coming off an 18-2, and East Coast Conference title-winning season.
Lynn, the reigning NCAA Division II national champion, and runner-up Saginaw Valley State earned the respective No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Simon Fraser was third, while Mercyhurst and Regis completed the Top-5.
East Region foes Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack joined LIU Post in the Top-25 conversation. The Penmen finished one notch ahead of the Pioneers in eighth, and the Warriors sat 17th.
LIU Post returns its pair of 2012 NSCAA All-America picks, both of whom sat atop the green and gold's scoring leaderboard last year. Senior forward Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.), who was also dubbed the ECC Offensive Player of the Year, paced the squad with 34 points (15 G, 4 A). Senior back Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) consequently ranked second, posting a 20-point (4 G, 12 A) output.
Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers kick off 2013 on Thursday, Sept. 5, when they take on Concordia at 3:30 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
