BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 5, 2013) – No. 6 Dowling College squeaked past the No. 3 LIU Post men's basketball team 70-64 in an East Coast Conference quarterfinal match-up Tuesday evening in the Pratt Recreation Center.

The score was tied at 63-all with just 49 seconds left in the game, but the Golden Lions finished with a 7-1 run to secure the win and advance to the ECC semi-finals.

Dowling led for the first six and a half minutes of play until freshman Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) drained a three-point shot to grab his squad's first lead of the day at 11-9.  Over the remainder of the period, the score was tied three times and the lead changed another five times.  A jumper from Dowling's Corwin Austin with 3:29 remaining gave the Golden Lions a five point lead, but a Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J) free throw followed by jumpers from Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) and Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) tied up the score at 25-all as time expired.

The Golden Lions scored the first seven points of the second half before another trey from Burns followed by a Carberry jumper pulled the Pioneers within two.  Dowling led by as many as eight points before a Williams jumper at the 11:43 mark tied the score up for the fourth time on the night at 41-41.  Carberry sank a jumper to give the Pioneers the lead, but a quick three from Dowling's Ronald Baker once again switched the advantage back to the visiting side.  Freshman Emile Blackman (Dix Hills, N.Y.) grabbed an offensive rebound and put the ball right back up to bring the score to 45-44 in favor of LIU Post with 9:37 left to play.  The lead changed hands again when Dowling's Josh Malone drained a shot from beyond the arc at the 7:57 mark and did not fall behind for the remainder of the game.  The Golden Lions' Darien Davis sank two free throws with six seconds remaining to seal the 70-64 win.

Butler finished with a team-high 14 points, while Carberry and Williams chipped in 13 each. Williams also grabbed a game-high nine boards.  Dowling's Leon Taylor scored a game-high 21 points and Malone added 17 points.
