Men's Soccer Clinches No. 1 Seed in NCAA East Regional
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 11, 2013) - The LIU Post men's soccer team has claimed the East Region's No. 1 seed in the 2013 NCAA Division II Championship, as released Monday by the national office. The Pioneers will host a sub-regional with fourth-seeded Dowling and fifth-seeded NYIT.
East Coast Conference foes Dowling and NYIT square off first on Thursday (Nov. 14) at 1 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y. The victor advances to take on LIU Post Saturday. In the team's regular-season finale on Oct. 30, the Golden Lions edged the Bears, 3-1.
The Pioneers picked up two wins in 2013 against Dowling, including Friday's ECC title-capturing 3-0 shutout. LIU Post was also triumphant in its lone match of the season versus NYIT, a 3-2 overtime victory, courtesy of an Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) penalty kick, on Sept. 28.
The winner of the Brookville sub-regional will face the last team standing of the second East Region three-team tournament, featuring host Southern New Hampshire, Wilmington and Post. That contest will be held next Thursday (Nov. 21) or Friday (Nov. 22) at the highest-remaining seed in the Atlantic Region.
It will all result in four squads squaring off in Evans, Ga. for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Championship from Dec. 5-7.
