FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2013) - Behind 10 first-place finishes over 13 total events, the LIU Post women's swimming team cruised by Queens by a final score of 159-64 Wednesday in Flushing, N.Y. The Pioneers had seven different individuals capture first-place efforts, including two from sophomores Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) and Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.).

Soerensen secured wins in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. She swam the 50-free in a time of 24.91, just edging out teammates Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) and Maxi Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who finished with second- and third-best clockings of 26.07 and 26.92, respectively. In the 100-fly, she was also followed up by two teammates. Her clip of 59.15 barely beat out teammate Tamara Garriock's (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada) time of 59.83, and Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom) was right behind with a third-place finish (1:03.01).

Kwok's two individual wins came in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 2:10.80 was enough to send teammate Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) into second place (2:12.51). Right behind Pettersson was fellow Pioneer Carolin Rademacher (Isernhagen, Germany), who slapped the wall after 2:12.70 had passed. In the 100-back, she beat out two teammates as well. Kwok's winning time of 58.89 bested Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) and Pettersson, who finished with the next-best times of 1:00.93, and 1:02.14, respectively.

Delehanty added a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.99, beating teammates Kat Kazaba (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) and Russo, who logged clockings of 55.85 and 58.13. Kazaba also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.37), with Garriock taking home the top spot after slapping the wall at 1:56.97.

Also with an individual win, Rademacher finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.41, while teammate Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) followed behind with the second-best time of 1:09.39.

Junior Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden) finished the long event of the afternoon, the 1,000-yard freestyle, well over two minutes ahead of the opposition, as she registered a time of 10:36.94. In her other event of the meet, she finished behind freshman Poppy Hill (London, England, United Kingdom) in the 500-yard freestyle, as the pair recorded times of 5:33.73 and 5:28.41. Rounding out the Top-3 was fellow Pioneer Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden), who tallied a time of 5:42.08.

The final victory for LIU Post came via the 200-yard medley relay, as the Pioneer squads took both first and second place. Petterson, Garriock, Kwok, and Brazier totaled a finishing time of 1:49.98 for the 'A' relay, while Jones, Rademacher, Soerensen, and Delehanty compiled the 'B' squad, finishing with a mark of 1:51.80.

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 9, when they take on Kutztown in Kutztown, Pa. for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
