BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2013) - Senior middle blocker Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) picked up her fifth double-double of the year Thursday night, tallying 12 kills and 11 digs, as the LIU Post volleyball team toppled Mercy, 3-0, in an East Coast Conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.

The Pioneers (12-3, 4-0 ECC), who have now won four in a row, began the first set on a 14-4 run, and never looked back. Namahoe knocked down one kill, and served a pair of aces in the burst. Junior setter Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) added a kill, which gave the hosts an early 2-1 edge, and an ace. She also handed out two of her match-best 26 assists.

In the second set, LIU Post again jumped out to a big lead, en route to a 25-17 win. Two kills, and a pair of Centro aces, led to a quick 7-0 start. The Pioneers would extend its advantage to as many as 10 points in the stanza on four occasions. Though the Mavericks (6-7, 0-3 ECC) attempted a late rally, closing the gap to as few as seven points, an Analise Austin (Honolulu, Hawaii) kill sealed it.

Lastly, in the third set, LIU Post held an early 6-1 edge, but a subsequent run by Mercy cut the deficit to one (7-6). The Pioneers fired back, however, with a furious 15-2 burst to close it out. Sophomore setter/outside hitter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) got things going with a kill, and an ace. Namahoe contributed two kills, and a block assist.

For the match, the green and gold hit .278, including an impressive .394 clip in the final set. Austin had six kills and three digs. Sophomore libero Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) totaled 13 digs.

Head Coach Shellane Ogoshi and her LIU Post squad now play three straight on the road, starting Saturday (Oct. 5), at ECC rival Queens. First serve is slated for noon.
