Field Hockey to "Play4TheCure" Against Merrimack on Sunday
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2013) - The LIU Post field hockey team has joined with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in its fundraising campaign, "Play4TheCure". The Pioneers will be raising funds for the organization Sunday during their 11 a.m. contest versus Merrimack.
LIU Post will sport pink wristbands, and utilize a ball of the same color, in support of the cause. All proceeds, including general donations made at the front gate, will benefit the NFCR.
"Our "Play4TheCure" game is always an emotional one," said Head Coach Raenee Savin (Nesconset, N.Y.). "So many members of the LIU Post community have been affected by cancer, both directly and indirectly. This year's game holds a special place in our hearts. We are dedicating it to Joann Hammon, the mother of one of our current teammates. She is currently fighting her battle against colon cancer with such bravery."
Co-founded in 1973, the National Foundation for Cancer Research has grown into a world-renowned organization, driven by its mission to fund leading-edge cancer research through prevention, detection and treatment. The NFCR supports nearly 50 laboratories, and numerous scientists, that have helped make possible many cancer treatments that are saving lives today.
