Field Hockey Climbs to Third in NFHCA Top-10 Ledger
CHANDLER, Ariz. (Oct. 22, 2013) - After five consecutive weeks at No. 5, the LIU Post moved into a tie for third on Tuesday with Stonehill in the NFHCA/Penn Monto Division II Top-10 Poll. The Pioneers and Skyhawks currently sport identical records of 14-0 on the year.
Shippensburg was the unanimous No. 1, collecting 180 points and all 18 first-place votes. Millersville (161 points) re-claimed the second spot. West Chester dropped from fourth to fifth, while Bloomsburg stayed in the No. 6 slot. Limestone and East Stroudsburg switched places at seventh, and eighth, respectively. Merrimack and Bentley rounded out the census.
LIU Post got three wins last week, two of which came versus Northeast-10 Conference foes. The Pioneers got things going Monday with a 2-1 overtime victory against East Stroudsburg. Sophomore forward Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) netted the game-winner 3:54 into the extra session. That was followed by a 5-0 blanking of Adelphi (Thurs.) and a 2-1 edging of Saint Michael's (Sun.).
Margiotta paced the green and gold's offensive production between the three games, amassing 10 points, off four goals and two assists. A season-best seven of them occurred Thursday afternoon against Adelphi.
Head Coach Raenee Savin and the Pioneers are back in action today (Oct. 22), when they host Mercy at Hickox Field in Brookville, N.Y. The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
