No. 22 Men's Soccer Shoots Past AIC, 4-1
Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 8, 2012) – The 22nd-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team scored three second half goals to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock en route to a 4-1 victory over the American International College Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
LIU Post improves to 4-0 overall while AIC slips to 0-4.
Senior
Bas Beverwijk (Zwolle, Netherlands) got the Pioneers on the board in the 15th minute as
Johan Wallin (Sollentuna, Sweden) sent a cross that Beverwijk knocked in for a 1-0 lead.
Conor Doyle assisted Kyle Kazukynas to tie the game at one in the 32nd minute.
Sophomore
Eivind Ausboe (Stavanger, Sweden) scored to put the Pioneers ahead almost immediately after the start of the second half as he was assisted by junior
Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.)
Austboe fed a pass to junior
Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England), who scored on a breakaway at 59:48 to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead, and freshman
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) capped the afternoon's scoring with an unassisted goal at 70:45 to cushion the Pioneers with a 4-1 advantage.
The visitors held a slim 15-13 shot advantage, and AIC took seven corners to the Pioneers' six.
Junior goalkeeper
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made five stops to earn the victory, while Richard Lynham made two saves in the first 58:33, and Jason Ryan played the last 31:27, making two stops as well.
The Pioneers return home on Sept. 12 as they play host to Nyack in the home opener, starting at 3:30 p.m.
