Turan's Pair Of Goals Help Lift No. 3 Men's Soccer Past Dowling, 4-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2012) – Junior forward Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the No. 3 LIU Post Pioneers with a pair of goals and an assist in a 4-1 East Coast Conference victory over Dowling College Wednesday afternoon at the men's soccer field.
 
LIU Post's overall record improves to 7-0 with a 2-0 mark in the ECC.  Dowling's record dips to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
 
The Pioneers wasted no time and scored their first goal 55 seconds into the game when Turan sent a quick cross pass over to freshman midfielder Per Forgaard (Stavangar, Norway), who shot it into the lower right corner from 10 yards out.  The two teammates reversed on the next Pioneer goal as Foorgaard crossed the ball from the left wing over to Cemil for a 10-yard shot into the upper right corner in the ninth minute of play.
 
Minutes later, sophomore forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norwary) scored unassisted from 20 yards out on a free kick in the 14th minute to give LIU Post a 3-0 lead at halftime.
 
LIU Post added one more goal to the count in the 60th minute when Turan chipped a 5-yard shot into the net on a left side pass from senior forward Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway).
 
The Golden Lions were able to capitalize on a Pioneer miscue with an own goal in the 77th minute.
 
Junior Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made three saves in goal for the win.
 
LIU Post outshot Dowling, 21-9, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
 
LIU Post returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 23 when it hosts Roberts Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
