Men's Soccer Takes Down Bloomfield In OT, 2-1

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Sept. 1, 2012) – The LIU Post men's soccer team shook off an early Bloomfield goal to score the equalizer late in the second half and force overtime, then sophomore Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) netted the game winner in overtime to give the Pioneers a 2-1 victory over the Bloomfield College Deacons on Saturday afternoon at the UB Men's Soccer Classic.

LIU Post goes to 2-0 overall while Bloomfield evens its record at 1-1.

Kemar Richards, who led the Deacons with five shots in the game, got the Deacons on the board early, as he put a long shot into the upper left corner at 6:23.

The Pioneers increased their offensive effort, outshooting BC 11-4 in the first half, but were stifled by a strong effort from Bloomfield keeper Kieran Moran.  LIU Post increased its offensive pressure in the second half, and finally in the 75th minute, their efforts paid dividends as freshman Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) sent a cross from the right side to junior forward Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) who scored the equalizer.

Neither team was able to score for the remainder of regulation, despite a 14-6 shot differential in favor of the Pioneers, forcing overtime. 

LIU Post continued its momentum as overtime began, as the Pioneers were awarded a penalty kickone minute and 31 seconds into the first OT period following a Bloomfield hand ball in the box.  Moran stopped Eirik Bjoernoe's (Randaberg, Norway) PK, but Austboe raced in and put home the rebound after a bit of a scrum in the box to give the Pioneers the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) earned his second victory of the season with three saves, while Moran stopped nine shots. 

The Pioneers continue non-conference action on Thursday as they travel to Assumption for a 7 p.m. contest under the lights against the Greyhounds.
