Men's Soccer Defeats Wilmington 3-1 in Season Opener

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Aug. 30, 2012) – The LIU Post men's soccer team opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.) on Thursday afternoon at the Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic behind a goal and two assists from sophomore Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway).  

LIU Post begins its season with a 1-0 record while Wilmington drops its opener and stands at 0-1.

The Pioneers, who held a 24-13 shot advantage, wasted little time in getting the scoring started as Austboe scored off a corner kick just four minutes and 34 seconds into the game, with the assists being credited to junior Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) and senior Andreas Olson (Oppeid, Norway.)

LIU Post doubled its lead as Austboe fed a pass in front of the goal to Olson, who booted it home at 27:25 for a 2-0 advantage.
After the second half began, LIU Post increased its lead to 3-0 as Austboe added another assist, this time to Watkin on a through ball that Watkin converted for a goal at 41:19. 

Wilmington scored in the 50th minute on a goal by Pedro Moreira that broke up the shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) recorded two saves on the afternoon, while counterpart Chad Jenkins made nine stops in
the loss.

The Pioneers resume action in the Bridgeport Classic on Saturday at 4 p.m., taking on Bloomfield College.
