Women's Basketball's Offense Erupts For 90-42 Win Over Molloy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2012) – The C.W. Post women's basketball scored 52 first half points en route to a 90-42 win over Molloy College Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference clash at Quealy Gymnasium.
 
C.W. Post improves to 19-8 overall and 10-5 in ECC action.  Molloy dips to 11-14 overall and 7-8 in the conference.
 
Junior center Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) each scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Pioneers.  Senior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored 13 points while junior guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) added 12 points and six assists.  Junior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. 
 
Molloy was led in scoring by Jessica DeNicola, who had 10 points.
 
The Pioneers took their first lead of the game when Joyner nailed a long three at 19:44 before the Lions responded with two baskets followed by a trey from Nicole Arnone to record a 7-5 lead.
 
From there, C.W. Post's offense erupted with a 28-4 run, beginning with a layup from Joyner at 15:28 and finishing with a jumper from senior forward Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) at 9:02.  Peters was accountable for 10 points during that span.
 
C.W. Post led 52-23 at the half.  The Pioneers had outscored the Lions, 24-12, in the paint and held a 29-11 advantage on the boards.  Peters led with 12 points while Kopp had scored 11 in the half.
 
The Pioneers' lead continued to climb in the second half.  A 23-6 burst ran their lead up to 77-29 with 8:20 to play.
 
C.W. Post finished the game shooting .448 (30-67) from field goal range and was 24-28 from the charity stripe.  The Pioneers outrebounded the Lions, 54-24, in the game.  Molloy shot .308 (16-52) from the field and was 6-17 at the line.
 
C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 for its final regular season game at home.  The Pioneers will be honoring seniors Joyner and Lutz.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
