Women's Basketball Turns Aside Queens, 88-55

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 15, 2012) – The C.W. Post women's basketball boasted five players who scored in double digits en route to an 88-55 victory over Queens College Wednesday evening in an East Coast Conference clash at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post improves to 18-9 overall and 9-5 in the ECC while Queens falls to 1-22 overall and 0-13 in conference action.
 
Junior center Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomore guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) had 12 points along with five assists and three steals.  Senior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had 11 points while junior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) each scored 10 points.  The Pioneer bench contributed with 33 points.
 
Queens was led in points by Megan White with 13.  Cadie Chu, Joanna Verouhis and Nicole Caggiano each had 10 points.
 
The Pioneers opened the game with a 9-2 run and never gave up the lead. They built their lead as high as 15 points twice in the first half as Joyner led all scorers with 11 points. C.W. Post held a 41-28 lead at halftime.
 
The Pioneers were firing on all cylinders in the second half as they maintained their double figure lead as it climbed above 20 during the final 10 minutes.
 
C.W. Post scored 39 points on 29 turnovers from the Knights and outshot them 36-10 in the paint while keeping a 16-0 advantage on fast break points. 
 
The Pioneers completed the game shooting .449 (35-78) from field goal range and went 13-16 at the free throw line.  Queens shot .429 (18-42) from the field and was 14-18 at the line.
 
The Pioneers promoted the “Pink Zone” in support of breast cancer by wearing pink during the game.
 
C.W. Post returns to action Saturday against Molloy College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
